Each year at the regional meet ups, NIRSA recognizes the excellent work of their colleagues and honors members who bring tremendous value to collegiate recreation in their home region. CENTERS is excited to announce that Nick Froelich, Executive Director of University Recreation and Wellbeing at Cleveland State University, is the 2024 NIRSA Region III Merit Award recipient.

Mr. Froelich is a department head within the CSU Division of Business Affairs & Finance and is the senior leader responsible for the overall functional and day-to-day operation of CENTERS at Cleveland State University including the Recreation Center and Student Center. He embodies the spirit of dedication, passion, and excellence within the industry. He is an active member of NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation, has participated on many NIRSA committees and has had the privilege to serve in state, regional, and national roles, including NIRSA Region III Regional Representative. He is a frequent conference presenter and assists CENTERS with management advisory services.

This prestigious award recognizes professionals from each NIRSA Region who demonstrate exceptional performance or dedication to NIRSA and collegiate recreation. It celebrates individuals who excel in their commitment to serving their NIRSA region and positively impacting their community. Recipients of the NIRSA Region III Merit Award are shining examples of what it means to be a trailblazer in the recreation industry.

As Mr. Froelich, aptly put it: “It has truly been a privilege to have a career in higher education and contribute to the field of university wellbeing. I am here because of the institutions, networks, and individuals established through NIRSA. Because of that, I strongly encourage and advocate giving back and paying it forward through servant leadership.”
